As I mentioned in some of the posts on page load time, a customer clicking away from your page because she/he cannot wait unreasonably is the last thing you may want to have. If you try sites or experts on optimizing your page for page-load, they will put forward a huge number of technical parameters that may not be comprehensible unless you are an expert of such topics. So, it is almost ruled out to master all these tricks.
What to do then? Let us look at some simpler aspects. Most of the experts recommend an ideal total file size of 30 K, which will load in 8 seconds or less on a 56Kbps modem, or 14.25 seconds on others. If this is the limit, consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Be sure to provide feedback for pages over 30K by layering your design to display useful content within the first two seconds. That will keep the visitor engaged. Try this.
